The sun rises majestically over the horizon. The wildlife gracefully stirs, embracing a renewed sense of curiosity. Your footprints create one-of-a-kind impressions as you stroll along the shore. And your pace, without realizing, keeps time to the rhythm of the sea. On the beaches of Amelia Island, this is how the day begins. Where you take it from there is entirely up to you. Let’s find your Island thing.
The one and only Main Beach
Lovingly dubbed “The Family Zone,” Main Beach is the place where beauty meets brawn. Only the pristine shoreline separates the ocean from the action. And the action is plentiful. Spend your morning frolicking on the beach, then amp up your afternoon with putt-putt golf, a surf and skate park, and a delicious dinner with a view.
Central Amelia Island
The central part of the island, also known as Seaside Park, is the location for many a festival, plus you’ll find a collection of family-friendly restaurants, ice cream shops, a variety of accommodations, and everything else you need to make the most of your time in the Fun Zone. Not to mention, a breathtaking beach.
In 1935, the Pension Bureau of the Afro-American Life Insurance Company led by Abraham Lincoln (A.L.) Lewis bought three parcels of land to create a beach and resort in response to Florida's segregation laws. Today, the A.L. Lewis Museum at American Beach preserves that legacy. Did you know the City of Fernandina Beach Fire Department has officially implemented a beach safety dashboard for Amelia Island? This tool helps all beachgoers stay informed of surf conditions, hazards, rules, plus lifeguard tower locations and status.
Amelia Island's natural beauty leaves a lasting impression. However, we request that visitors and residents leave only their footprints. Please respect the environment and dispose of trash properly, fill in any holes and smooth out sandcastles before you leave the beach. These obstacles can be a danger to nesting sea turtles and other wildlife. Articles left unattended after sunset may be removed and destroyed.
