Little Talbot State Park

With more than five miles of beautiful, white sandy beaches, Little Talbot Island is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands in Northeast Florida. Maritime forests, desert-like dunes, and undisturbed salt marshes on the western side of the island allow for hours of nature study and relaxation. The diverse habitats in the park host a wealth of wildlife for viewing including river otters, marsh rabbits, bobcats, and a variety of native and migratory birds.

Nice campground but beware of mosquitoes

Beautiful location, lovely beach, great bike trails & friendly staff. Glad I read the reviews so I came prepared with lots of bug spray, but the mosquitoes at spot #4 are pretty wicked! It’s right near the water so it’s beautiful but buggy!

A beautiful off-the-beaten track beach

A beautiful off-the-beaten track beach. We went during a sunny Spring day and had most of the beach to ourselves. We parted at the 2nd lot and walked along the wooden path to the beach. There are some mosquitos there so it's good to hurry but once at the beach, it's fantastic!

Wake Up!!

To Whom This May Concern:I am writing this to notify you of my disappointment and concern over Florida State Parks. My husband and I had reservations at Little Talbot Island SP from April 10 - 13.  Our site was #7.  Being that it is a "Tent Only" site, we trusted that your park system had our safety as a top priority.  On Saturday April 9, my husband was checking the weather channel for Little Talbot SP.  That was the first time we were made aware of the impending storm.  At this time, there were 3 weather alerts posted.  I immediately called the park and was reassured that there were 4 sites open.  Ours was one of the four, the rest were under water or sustained some damage.  When I mentioned the coming storm, they were startled and explained that this was the first they had heard of this.  At this time, I tried cancelling our reservation.  I was given the option of receiving half of what I paid.  After talking to four employees, all unaware of this storm, I was reassured that my concern was a top priority at that a full refund was going to be considered.  I was shocked.  The money was not the big deal.  The negligence of your staff was appauling.  My husband and I were arriving on motorcycles with a small tent.  The complacency of your staff and their lack of concern over the safety of the campers was unbelievable.  Upon further investigation we discovered that Hwy A1A closes once the wind speed reaches 29 mph.  The forecast stated that high tide and 15 ft waves were a recipe for destruction.  They warned everyone that the area was not safe and to avoid it.  Wind gusts were up to 45 mph and the rip current was bad enough to drag us out to sea.  YET, your staff remained confident that we were not in danger.  My husband and I were campground hosts at Fort Desoto.  When dangerous weather was forecast, we were instructed to warn every camper of impending danger and assist them in evacuating.  A full refund was given.  24 hours later, you tube showed Hwy A1A under water and waves that exceeded 15ft.  For those people that did not watch the weather, I pray that they are ok. People could have died in this storm, please be more attentive to the weather.

The best ocean views on the east coast!

Heckscher Drive, is one of the most beautiful roads in the USA.
Take it from Jacksonville to Amazing Amelia Island FL. This is a ride you will never forget. We live on Amelia Island for 20 years and this drive still is mesmerizing.

Stunning beaches and walking trails

The day of my visit was far too cold for a dip in the water, but with enormous beaches and a long walking trail through trees and along the water, I'll happily return when the weather's more appropriate. Inexpensive, too- far less than one typically pays for hourly parking at other beaches, with considerably more offered.
