Burney Park is a beachfront park on the south end of Amelia Island at American Beach. There is plenty of parking in the large free lot, restrooms with showers, outdoor showers, picnic tables and lifeguard towers manned daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
The Burney Park beach access allows beach driving onto the sand and parking on the beach (non-residents require a permit).
A bit of a walk to get to the beach
But worth it. Great spot to walk the dog, tons of space to walk. Parking was plentiful and there are rest rooms.
Great Beach Park
We were exploring on a beautiful March day and came upon this park. A very large parking lot that was quite empty because it wasn’t a “beach day.” We explored and took pictures of the dunes and crashing waves. There were plenty of shells washed up on the shore. A good number of couples were out enjoying their walks along the beach. Nice picturesque views and the sound of the ocean. Recommended.
Great wedding location
Took my daughter scouting for beach wedding locations in the Amelia Island area and came upon this gem. She and her fiancé fell in love with it. There’s a huge parking lot so no worries about finding a spot to park. There are restrooms at the edge of the parking lot before heading down the walkway to the beach. The sand is not covered in shells, so a little softer to walk on. The wedding went off smoothly and the pictures were great. There’s a cool tree at the corner of the parking lot that’s great for pictures too.
Excellent Convenient South-End Beach Access
Fernandina Beach does a marvelous job of maintaining family-friendly beaches and this is a perfect access point for the south-end of the island.
Small "Park" but big Parking Lot
The "park" is a covered gazebo with a few picnic tables, restrooms, and a boardwalk to American Beach. But the parking lot is quite large.
