First meal on Amelia Island!!
We 4 women arrived on Amelia Island about 5:00 P.M. We were renting a VRBO 1/2 mile down the beach. We walked to the Sandbar, asked to be seated inside. Our server was a very nice and informative young man!! Beverages cold and tasty! My shrimp and grits yummy! The pizza was good too!!

This is somewhat of a hidden gem. On the beach, great ambience, good pours, delicious food. The shrimp and grits with collard greens melds so many flavors, I think about it after I leave!
A Nice Visit... and Then a Terrible Visit
We dropped in 3 weeks ago, and while I was parking the car my buddy (who uses a walker) waited for me out front and happened to meet the pizza maker, who was also standing there. We had a friendly chat, he talked us into the pizza; and sure enough it was great.
I noticed the burger and made a mental note to get one next visit!
On the next visit to Sandbar a week ago, things went downhill quickly. I was told "No Shoes no Service," (It's a BEACH venue, for crying out loud!) so I had to leave my buddy --he has Parkinsons-- and go fetch some sandals. Therefore my buddy was left to negotiate to the table by himself; a very bad move by the staff.
The calamari were tiny, withered, overcooked and probably the worst I've ever had. Pointed it out to the waitress and she batted the complaint aside with a: "We do the best we can with what they give us." Ummmm, no. If your vendor can't give you a fat, juicy, succulent calamari, you take it off the menu until you can find a satisfactory vendor. You don't serve $16 crap appetizers!!
The burgers, while they didn't look as appetizing as the last ones I saw, were indeed made with a great piece of meat, but the bun was stale and --I hate this part-- the bun crumbled to pieces when you tried to eat the burger.
Sandbar was not that crowded and yet our waitress was almost non-existent, which was probably a good thing, as I was quite unhappy.
Worst of all, my fries were cold! That's criminal. (I &%$#@ing HATE that) and new ones arrived after I'd finished my burger. Total fail.
Bourbon on the Beach
In the area for a few days so actually ate here twice. First meal was with family, food and service were great. We had the bourbon burgers and they were fantastic. This place has a huge selection of amazing Whiskies and Bourbon. Our server was Marcus and he was very knowledgable, he selected bourbons for us and we were not disappointed. In fact he was the reason we went back again this evening. Sat on the patio facing the ocean, sipping our drinks and then had another great meal. Caesar salad with shrimp and a shrimp po’boy. Thank you to all the staff and especially to Marcus for making it a wonderful experience. Will definitely be coming back the next time we are in the area.
Need to get their mojo back
Since the new owners took over the food has changed. Been there 3 times recently and the shrimp are half the size, salad was warm and wilted. My husband’s crab bisque was lukewarm. Hoping they can improve.
