Established in 1798 during Spanish rule, Bosque Bello, Spanish for “beautiful woods”, is one of Florida’s oldest cemeteries. Its peaceful setting reflects the rich and often surprising history of Fernandina Beach, where eight different flags once flew over the island, and people from around the world made their homes.

As you stroll among weathered marble monuments, elaborate Victorian memorials, and simple family plots, you’ll discover the final resting places of shrimping pioneers, Civil War veterans, sea captains, merchants, politicians, entrepreneurs, and generations of local families. Every headstone offers a glimpse into the lives of the people who built this coastal community, while the cemetery itself serves as an outdoor museum preserving more than two centuries of local history.

Bosque Bello is also known for its remarkable artistry. Intricate stone carvings, tabby walls on family plots, angels, crosses, and monuments showcase changing architectural styles and customs through the decades.
