Amelia Island is as known for it’s storied history just as much as it’s known for nature, wildlife, and beaches. Whether you’re a lover of history or not, saying “I do” in a historical setting is special. Share your big day with invited guests as well as the wisp of a memory of those that have stood in that very spot centuries before you. Whether your vows are made on a beach, verandah, porch, in a garden, or a grand hallway, the timeless memories made will last a lifetime and beyond. Take a look at these six historical properties where you and your betrothed can tie the knot.
Situated on the corner of S 7th and Cedar Streets, this grand 8,000 sq ft Italiante Villa stands as proud as she did in 1885 when she was built by Major George Fairbanks as a surprise for his wife. The Fairbanks House not only boasts the mansion itself but also three cottages and a pool all on a gorgeously landscaped acre featuring native plants, palm trees, large oaks and a butterfly garden. If you want to skip all the hoopla of a big wedding, the Elopement Package may be just what you’re looking for. Get all the package details here.
Located in the very heart of downtown Fernandina Beach sits the oldest surviving hotel in the state of Florida and the matriarch of the historic district. Built in 1857, the Florida House Inn has entertained such notables as U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, Henry Ford, and early film stars Mary Pickford as well as Laurel and Hardy. With 17 rooms, the inn can accommodate wedding parties and guests while the courtyard gardens are the perfect place to dine, dance and get married under the stars. Learn more here.
Imagine getting married in a 19th century fort where civil war soldiers lived and worked. Or, on the beach in front of the fort where pirates once roamed. If you’re a big history and/or civil war buff, Fort Clinch is the perfect matrimonial spot to begin your lives together. Fort Clinch State Park provides a stellar backdrop and is perfect for smaller weddings… especially at sunset. Locations within the fort include the Atlantic Beach, along the St. Marys Inlet, and inside the fort. Call the park administrative office at 904-277-7226 for more information.
Elegantly standing on the corner of Atlantic and 8th Streets, the Hoyt House is a beautiful 1905 Victorian mansion rich in historic architecture and surrounded by lush gardens and 250-year old oak trees. Boasting ten luxuriously-appointed guestrooms, each with private bath, the Hoyt House oozes southern hospitality for the perfect small wedding. Choose a package and then decide whether the ceremony will take place in the lush garden gazebo or the indoor parlor. Decisons. Decisions. Get all the package details here.

This beautiful old home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features an open lawn space, hidden gardens, as well as several intimate parlor rooms for ceremony or reception.
