Amenities:
GREAT location, ok accommodations.
I am going to provide my pros & cons for this location. We stayed in room 16/deluxe king. Pros: GREAT LOCATION. In the heart of everything. Room was VERY spacious. Cons: The Inn needs love. Now granted, it’s 100+ years old, but we have stayed in 100+year old inns before and caretakers take pride in maintaining. Con II, the bar next door is a GREAT perk, BUT if they have live music at night, it impacts your stay. I’m glad we stayed, won’t stay again.
2 Night Stay
We visited for 2 days and nights. Bathroom and Shower had visible dirt in corners and on grout of shower. We did not have enough hot water either day or night for even one of us to shower. Had to shower with cold water. A/C did not cool room well at all. Ceiling fan wobbled so could not adjust past low without terrible noise. Hotel is directly next to a bar with live ban playing nightly very loud until 11pm, sounding like it was in room next to us. Guest coffee maker had no water available a large part of the time. Continental breakfast provided was poor at next.
Very nice historical inn situated in a perfect location .
We loved Florida house Inn. First time to Amelia island and will def be back. Classy town with great shops , food and things to do. Very clean in and small complimentary breakfast Daily. Brunch was great and perfectly located with restaurants and shops right outside your door and a brewery/band right beside us. Restaurant closed during the week but plenty of choices everywhere. It can be alittle loud but great music during the evening. Very safe area and super nice people here.
Very historic, but sadly unloved
Wonderful property perfectly located in the center of Fernandina Beach. Given that this is the oldest hotel in all of Florida, it is a shame to see it so disrespected by current owners There were so many little and easily fixable issues that they are impossible to list. When we arrived to our room, we were greeted by a full tiny bathroom trash can (the only one in the room) and a toilet seat so wobbly that we had to hang on for dear life until we had it fixed (which they did right away). This made us wonder how clean the room was given how obvious those issues were. The water flow in the shower was meager, alternating from mild hot to cold to shutting off completely mid-shower. The minor repairs and painting are shoddy and show no sense of pride.
They advertise two bars and a restaurant, but none of those is open during the week. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 in a sitting room. One the first day, we were treated to French toast that was ice cold and left on an uncovered platter in a public space. On the other two days we were treated to yogurt and storebought quiche and cinnamon rolls. We made our own coffee in a Keurig.
We were also surprised that there were no service visits to our room. So plan to empty your own teeny trash can and reuse your bath towels.
Despite these issues, I wouldn’t advise avoiding this hotel. It is a very charming place. Prospective guests should go in with their eyes open regarding its shortcomings and hope that the owners read reviews like this one and invest a wee bit of cash to improve the guest experience.
Great location, nice room, but no bathroom?
The location was great. The room was very nice, but the bathroom was smaller than a phone booth. The bath tub was behind a curtain in front of the bed, and the john and tiny sink were pretty much in a small closet! It was also very noisy with trash/recycle colection every morning about seven am. And when we checked out there was nobody at the desk, so we were unable to get a receipt. I enjoyed our stay, but I doubt if I would stay there again. Sorry.
