Burlingame Restaurant offers relaxed fine dining in the Historic District. Seasonal menus created by a talented young local chef delivered by attentive and unpretentious servers in a casually elegant setting are the makings of your special dining experience. Dinners will be served in the three quaint dining rooms Monday to Saturday. Or just enjoy a beer or glass of wine at the bar or on the louvered pergola deck beneath the magnolias and towering live oak.
Good but expensive
As snowbirds, we were concerned as we saw a few negative reviews this summer...some saying the restaurant declined after a change in ownership. But when visited this weekend, we found those opinions overstated. (And, per our server, the chance in ownership was merely two investors selling their stakes to the chef and his wife, hardly a massive overhaul). During our visit, the food was very good The fish dip appetizer was incredibly tasty. Our various entrees (diver scallops, shrimp scampi and the poulet rouge) were good, though the perfectly cooked shrimp and scallops were a bit under-seasoned. In our opinion, the food and service still make Burlingame one of the best on the island. Having said that, the restaurant's prices have soared in the past two years making the value questionable. Scallops at $51, chicken at $44 and shrimp scampi at $39 are high compared to other local alternatives. We will return, but at the current price points it will probably become an event location as opposed to a monthly visit.
Burlingame is great!
Wow! We'd heard that Burlingame had changed hands and that's always a concern. But no need to worry...the new owners are doing an amazing job. My husband and I felt there was not a moment where it wasn't perfect...well-rounded menu, fabulous presentation, and absolutely delicious food. And the service from Tanner was amazing. Kudos to all! We'll be back!!!
Meh
Service was excellent. Food was not good and honestly made me gag. Drinks were on point. Ambiance was great. Unfortunately, it’s a no from me.
Better choices in the area.
Save your money, much better choices in the area at a more reasonable price. Was very disappointed the taste and quality of my $62 entree.
Don't waste your money.
We had a reservation for 4 people at 7:45pm. In mid August. On a day with a heat advisory until 11pm at night. We arrive on time, check in and we are seated OUTSIDE!! I feel like that needs repeating WE ARE SEATED OUTSIDE DURING A HEAT ADVISORY AND NO ONE ASKED US IF WE WERE OKAY WITH THAT, NOR DID THEY OFFER ANY OTHER OPTIONS!! Mind you, there are tables inside that are available. No one asked us if we'd like to sit outside in the heat with the bugs or even if we'd be okay sitting outside. It was 86 degrees outside for the entirety of our 2 hour meal, with a 'feels like' temp between 99° and 101° (I kept checking, bc I was thinking the whole time 'how do they think this is okay?') There are fans, but at that heat, the fans make it even hotter. Like a damn convection oven! The 4 of us sweat the entire 2 hours that we are there. When it's that hot, at least speed up the service! We understand slower service for a great dining experience and conversation, but not when you're dripping sweat into your food! Onto the food, where things didn't get better. The lamb Bolognese needs a total reboot. It's ground lamb, instead of chunks of lamb like you'd expect at this price. It's also way to greasy. Sat heavy on the stomach all night and I woke up several times during the night and went to the bathroom bc I felt like I was going to be sick. The brussel sprouts used entirely too much bacon grease, which didn't help matters. It did taste good, but it didn't want to stay down after eating it. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. It looked good, but considering how hot it was outside, she was too nauseated to eat more than a few bites of it. We live in the area and have had many great shrimp and grits plates. Sadly, this is not one of them. If you want to pay a ton of money to sweat your ass off while eating mediocre food for 2 hours that doesn't want to stay in your stomach throughout the night, then this is the place you're looking for! If not, avoid this place like it's the plague.
