Located in historic downtown Fernandina Beach, the Amelia Schoolhouse Inn was built in 1886 as the local school for Amelia Island. Completely renovated in 2018, the 17-room boutique hotel has been certified as a National Historic structure and combines top-of-the-line modern amenities with professional restoration of much of the original building.
With an emphasis on customer service, the Inn also has a high-end bar (The Principal’s Office, open daily at 4pm) along with a courtyard with putting green that is open to the public.
Pleasant experience but not likely to return
The building is beautifully renovated. We stayed in a "cozy" room, as they described it. It is quite small and difficult to tend to ordinary tasks such as keeping out toothbrushes and toothpaste. Only 2 tiny shelves in bath. The hairdryer isn't even stored in the bathroom, it's so tight. We really enjoyed the location and the staff was extremely kind and friendly but for the money it's just too "cozy". The breakfast area needs to have a better setup for serving yourself as well. It's all done from one shelf with the microwave for the oatmeal up the stairs in the 2nd floor.
Anniversary Stay
Wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Anniversary Night at the Inn and would highly recommend this place to any couple celebrating a special evening. We enjoyed our time in the Principles Office before retreating to our more than accommodating room.
Charming stay in a perfect location!
What a delight! Room 9 did not disappoint. This is a charming inn! We loved everything about it - the decor, the cozy robes, the coffee/tea/water/snack station in the hallway, the live music, the many places to sit and socialize or sit in peace, the staff. It's easy to get around - the inn is just a few blocks from downtown, making an easy walk. Be sure to check out the Salty Pelican for good seafood, the Twisted Table for breakfast (the FRENCH TOAST!) and Amelia Island Coffee. The Amelia Schoolhouse Inn is the perfect place to stay...and we'll do it again!
The perfect place to stay! Walkable to everything! Super clean and the staff is amazing.
I honestly don't know how anyone could rate this gorgeous Inn anything less than 5 stars! Every aspect of this hotel is 1st class. It's incredibly clean, cozy, quaint and is staffed by Ritz Carlton quality people. The two receptionist/concierges are awesome and very friendly. If you need anything just ask. The bar is great and they'll even poor you a little Bailey's for your morning coffee if you ask. The specialty drinks were amazing. They had great live music one night on the patio. Again, EVERYTHING about this Inn is terrific, including one of the owners (Spence). I had a special request and Spence answered my email personally and not only accommodated my request but went above and beyond. They treat you like family here. I'd never stay anywhere else!
Getaway trip to Fernandina, Beach and Amelia island
Everything was fantastic. Loved having the bicycles available, and the proximity to all of downtown shops and restaurants. The place was immaculate, and the bar is wonderful. Staff was available when we needed. And very helpful.
