Nassau’s Bicentennial & 250th Bartram Anniversary Celebration

Brought to you by: Amelia Island Kayak Excursions

In celebrating the unique history of Nassau County during it’s Bicentennial, Amelia Island Kayak Excursions is celebrating 250 years of William Bartram’s Travels and the local shrimping industry of Nassau County, FL.

Before Lewis and Clark there was William Bartram. In March 1774, on Amelia Island, Bartram began his much-anticipated trip to Florida and the St. Johns River. He traveled through Old Fernandina to Lord Egmont’s plantation, then continued to the St. Johns River while documenting the region’s flora and fauna. Through his travels, he introduced the world to over 250 native plants!

To honor his travels, you can book either a Kayak Tour with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions or a Historic Van Tour with Amelia Island Footprints, then gather afterwards at Egan’s Creek Park for an inspiring interpretive talk.

Historic Water & Land Tours: (Kayak or Van)

Naturalist-Led Kayak Tour: Amelia Island Kayak Excursions will host a guided kayak tour focusing on the history, flora and fauna of Egan’s Creek and the area. Guests will experience gliding through the naturally carved marsh grass paths, while having a view of the historic Amelia Island Lighthouse. This environment also gives paddlers great views of marsh grasslands with an ever-changing skyline.

AND/OR

Along the route, a few William Bartram sites will be seen. (Book Historic Van Tour: bartram.ameliaislandfootprints.com)
