Event Series: Guided Fossil Hunt

Guided Fossil Hunt

October 31 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
A circular pattern made of many small shark teeth is surrounded by various seashells, a sand dollar, fossilized objects, and a coin for scale, all arranged neatly on a white background.

Interested in learning how to find a shark tooth, pecten, or any other off the fossil treasure that Amelia Island is famous for? Join Fernandina Fossils on a guided fossil hunt!

Dr. Foss, a trained naturalist with over a decade of experience, will lead you on a journey to discover Amelia Island fossils. He will help you understand the best hunting times, teach you hunting skills and techniques, introduce you to our coastal habitat, and show you how to read the beach and find shark teeth and other fossils. This in-person event is perfect for fossil enthusiasts of all ages. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to learn about Fernandina Beach fossils and how to successfully hunt for them.

After you have found fossils, bring them back to Fernandina Fossils to have them identified by our experts and labeled with our scientifically accurate ID cards. Take a photo at our aquarium mosaic wall in our Mermaid Courtyard, discover new ways to display your finds, and memorialize your favorite fossil finds as meaningful souvenirs in 3d display frames, memory bottle keychains, or converted into jewelry with wire wrapping or resin. If you don’t find a meg on the beach, you can find one for sale in our gift shop which is full of local fossils and fossil products created by local artists.

Happy Hunting!
