An Amelia Island boat tour doesn’t always have to be on a “motor” boat screaming across the water. Sometimes it can be a carefree sail where the wind gently propels you to your destination. Departing from the harbor at the foot of Centre Street, a charter with Windward Sailing or Follow That Dream Sailing takes you on a completely customized excursion – and, since their seasoned Captains are also sailing educators who teach certification courses, they will let you try your Chand at the wheel if you feel so inspired. A two-hour sail in the early evening gets you back just in time to see the sunset and arrive at your dinner reservations at one of downtown’s eclectic dining spots.
Enjoy the water, your way, by renting a boat or jet ski from Amelia Boat Club & Rentals. Grab your fishing gear and cast a line in the back creeks, take a sightseeing cruise past historic Fort Clinch, or hop on a jet ski to get a different, more adventurous perspective. It’s all up to you. Rentals are available on an hourly and daily basis, offering 8 boats and 4 jet-skis. Boats may be rented with or without a driver. The jet-skis are self-guided, so guests are free to enjoy on their own. Those looking for a fishing adventure in the open sea can charter a boat from one of the island’s many charter boat companies for the opportunity to land red bass, trout, flounder, tarpon, and more.
