DESCRIPTION:An interactive tour that includes deploying and retrieving the shrimp net\, and releasing the catch back into the wild! \nAn interactive exploration of Tiger Basin\, the Shrimping Eco Tour coaches our guests on the operation of an Otter Trawl shrimp net. Historically developed in Fernandina\, this net is similar to the nets used by the commercial shrimp industry today and part of the reason Fernandina Beach is known as the “Birthplace of the Modern Shrimping Industry”.  Deploying and retrieving the net is part of the hands-on experience. The catch will then be displayed in an on-board aquarium and each of the creatures will be identified and released back into the wild. We continue to explore the backwaters and tidal creeks that make up this estuary before returning to historic Fernandina Beach.

The first to represent her community before the United Nations\, she brings the spirit and legacy of the Gullah/Geechee people to life—live and unforgettable. \nAs part of a 10-month discussion series facilitated by T.R. Richardson\, This month’s program will feature Queen Quet. She is a published author\, computer scientist\, lecturer\, mathematician\, historian\, columnist\, preservationist\, environmental justice advocate\, environmentalist\, film consultant\, and “The Art-ivist.” \nHer “histo-musical” presentation gives us insight into descendants of Africans who were enslaved on the rice\, indigo\, and Sea Island cotton plantations of the lower Atlantic coast. The nature of their enslavement on isolated islands and coastal plantations created a unique culture with deep African retentions that are clearly visible in the Gullah Geechee people’s distinctive arts\, crafts\, foodways\, music\, and language. \nThis program is complimentary.\nPlease RSVP.

Perfect for dancing or just enjoying the sounds of a classic big band with a modern flair\, these events offer a variety of music from the 1920’s through the 2000’s. Each event features a live horn section\, world class singers and a variety of dances from ballroom to pop including latin\, waltz\, foxtrot\, hustle\, swing\, cha cha\, tango\, rhumba and more! \nThe Woman’s Club is just steps away from Fernandina Beach near the Atlantic Recreation Center and features a stage with ample seating with a 2400 sq. ft. ballroom and an outdoor patio. \nThe event is BYOB with light concessions and set-ups available for purchase. Seating is first come\, first serve with the exception of reserved tables (6) purchased in advance. \nAmelia Island Dance Series Dates: March 16th\, May 11th\, July 20th\, and September 21st.

SUMMARY:Shrimping Eco Tour
DESCRIPTION:An interactive tour that includes deploying and retrieving the shrimp net\, and releasing the catch back into the wild! \nAn interactive exploration of Tiger Basin\, the Shrimping Eco Tour coaches our guests on the operation of an Otter Trawl shrimp net. Historically developed in Fernandina\, this net is similar to the nets used by the commercial shrimp industry today and part of the reason Fernandina Beach is known as the “Birthplace of the Modern Shrimping Industry”.  Deploying and retrieving the net is part of the hands-on experience. The catch will then be displayed in an on-board aquarium and each of the creatures will be identified and released back into the wild. We continue to explore the backwaters and tidal creeks that make up this estuary before returning to historic Fernandina Beach.
