SUMMARY:The Maple Leaf: An American Civil War Shipwreck
DESCRIPTION:The Maple Leaf is a traveling exhibit developed through the Museum of Florida History’s Traveling Exhibit (TREX) Program. Behind the 2\,000 pounds of exhibit content is Dr. Keith Holland\, a Jacksonville dentist who discovered the wreck in the St. Johns River in 1984. Over the course of a decade\, Dr. Holland founded the St. Johns Archaeological Expeditions to excavate thousands of artifacts from the vessel\, buried beneath 7 feet of mud in 20 feet of water. \nToday\, the Amelia Island Museum of History hosts this remarkable exhibition\, allowing visitors a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of soldiers.\nA companion exhibit highlights the mystery and beauty of the underwater world through the lens of local Amelia Island artists.

SUMMARY:3 Sides to Every Story: Behind the Maple Leaf Exhibit Design
DESCRIPTION:Join exhibit designer John LoCastro for a behind-the-scenes look at The Maple Leaf traveling exhibit\, currently on view at the Amelia Island Museum of History. The exhibit documents the 1864 sinking of this historic paddle-wheel steamer in the St. Johns River. Commissioned by the Museum of Florida History\, LoCastro and his company\, Synergy Design Group\, worked closely with explorer Dr. Keith Holland and lead diver Lee Manley to shape the exhibit’s design and illustrations. In this Brown Bag Lunch\, LoCastro will share how that collaboration and his long career in maritime-themed projects influenced the creative process that brought this compact\, powerful exhibit to life. \nWhile the Maple Leaf exhibit is in the Lecture Hall through Dec. 7\, this program will be at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library.
