On November 22nd, the charm of the historic district is sweetened with the treats of the season when the annual Holiday Cookie Tour comes to life.  Hosted by the Amelia Island Bed and Breakfast Association,  the event features a self-guided walking tour of some of Amelia Island’s most popular historic homes on November 22 from noon to 5 p.m.  “The Holiday Cookie Tour has become a wonderful tradition and is a great way for guests who haven’t stayed at a bed and breakfast to see our beautiful inns,” said Deborah McCutchen, innkeeper at Amelia Island Williams House. “As an added bonus, each inn is decorated for the holidays, inspiring folks to get into the spirit of the holiday season and take home recipe cards to add to their own collections.”

Holiday Cookie Tour guests can visit all six of the destination’s bed and breakfast inns, taking in gorgeous holiday decorations and learning about each inn’s unique history. The inns will each feature a delicious signature holiday cookie, along with a recipe card to take home. For those who would like a little lift, the tour offers carriage and trolley service between stops.  A portion of ticket and cookbook sales from the tour will benefit Micah’s Place.

To make the experience even ore magical, VIP Lodging Packages are available for your Inn of choice. Each package is  priced at $150  plus shipping/handling fee of $9.75 and tax in the amount of $10.50 and includes:

  • A  gift certificate for a one-night midweek stay (Sun – Thurs) at an Inn of your choosing. Your stay will include breakfast and other fine Inn amenities.
  • “Sunshine Mornings at the Inns of Amelia” our newest association cookbook featuring recipes from all the Inn and 'secret' cookie recipes from past tours.

Bake up some holiday goodness at home with this recipe the Fairbanks House, which they made for last year's Cookie Tour:

Almond Joy Sugar Cookie Bars

1 1/3 C flour

½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp baking powder

½ C butter, softened

¾ C sugar

1 egg

½ tsp vanilla

2 C chocolate chips

1 C slivered almonds

1 C sweetened coconut flakes

1 C caramel sauce

In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.  In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.  Press into the bottom of a greased 9x13 Pyrex dish.  Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 6 minutes. Let cool slightly, then top with chips, coconut, almonds and caramel sauce.  Return to oven for 20 minutes.  Let cool, cut, and then chill for about an hour. Recut and serve. Makes 48 bars.
