A Gift That's Way Above Par
Let Dad get really teed off this Father's Day with an outstanding golf outing on Amelia Island, home to some of the region's most spectacular courses. For guests of the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island or the Summer Beach Resort, the Golf Club of Amelia Island offers 6,696-yards of challenging, beautifully landscaped golf. As the island's only PGA Tournament course, this private course also provides guests at the two resorts access to the practice range and two putting greens. The Amelia Island Plantation has 72 holes of golf available, and is one of the few resorts in the world to offer a Pete Dye and Tom Fazio course combination with links sculpted masterfully to showcase the Plantation's 1,350-acre sanctuary. The Plantation's newest course - Amelia River - is an 18-hole, 6,823-yard Tom Jackson design that is open to all visitors on the island. Another golf option includes the 27-hole Fernandina Beach Golf Club, considered one of the finest public courses in the Southeast.

In recent months, several Amelia Island residents have published books that give visitors the opportunity to share in the culture of the Isle of Eight Flags.
- The American Beach Cookbook is a culinary trove of savory recipes shared by people in the American Beach community. American Beach was once a glorious oceanfront haven for African Americans during the Jim Crow-era of segregation, and attracted superstars like Ray Charles and James Brown. With close to 300 recipes and a dozen remedies, the cookbook offers coveted recipes for Sandbar Crab Cakes, Aunt Liza's Seafood Casserole, and so much more. Cookbooks may be purchased online www.Amazon.com and www.upf.com for $19.95.
- The Amelia Island Bed and Breakfast Association recently released Cooking with the Inns of Amelia Island. Featuring all of the island's seven bed and breakfast inns, the cookbook includes more than 150 recipes. From Brown Sugar Bananas, to Peach Upside down French Toast, and Chocolate Chip Crunch Cookies, readers discover a delectable taste of the island's unique bed and breakfast experience. The books are $15.00 and can be purchased at any of the inns or online at www.ameliaislandinns.com.
