*IMPORTANT: Amelia Concours D'Elegance has been moved from March 12 to March 11*.
MOTORING HISTORY WITH THE BENTLEY BOYS.
Spring on Amelia Island brings more than sunny skies, fragrant flowers, and gorgeous beach days - March heralds the annual arrival of a rush of automotive elegance and high style (and a decidedly different look to parking lots all over the island.) Every year brings new and more exciting additions. Here are a few of the most highly anticipated for this year’s Concours Week.
CARS OF THE MOVIES. You don’t have to be a car buff to appreciate this all-star cast of nine famous cars of the silver screen. James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Two-Door Sedan and Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Nart Spyder from Steve McQueen's Thomas Crown Affair, the Chevrolet Imapala from American Graffiti, the 1924 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Riviera Salamanca used in Audrey Hepburn’s Sabrina, and of course, the 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible that practically starred in Rain Man are all ready for their close-ups. March 12 at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.
A movie-worthy story with a major motion picture set for release this year has a star on Amelia Island this March as well. In the 1920’s, a dashing group of extraordinary racers and adventurers of independent means achieved global fame for both their winning ways on the racetrack and their rollicking lifestyles off it. The Bonham’s Auction
will feature the model that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1928 (and it’s still in remarkable condition.) March 9th.
EIGHT FLAGS ROAD TOUR TO DOWNTOWN.
Some of the most stunning vehicles in the Concours d’Elegance go for a drive on and around Amelia Island, ending up in beautiful Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach with a public display at lunchtime. March 10th, concludes on Centre Street.
Before the start of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the Porsche Club of America is hosting a reunion event at the Amelia Island Plantation. Admission is free and spectators can take in a breathtaking array from rare classics to the latest models in a celebration of cars and cameraderie. March 10th, Oak Marsh Golf Course.
RARE SUPERCAR ON THE BLOCK FOR SCIENCE.
A McLaren P1, valued at $2,000,000–$2,300,000 without reserve, will be auctioned to benefit a professorship at the renowned Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, dedicated undergraduate science, engineering, and mathematics education. It’s one of the featured cars in the Amelia Island Gooding and Company Auctions, held at Omni Amelia Island Plantation. Public preview is March 9-10, the auction is Friday, March 10 at 11:00am, Racquet Park.
CARS AND COFFEE.
A free event founded in 2013, this year’s Cars and Coffee will be the largest yet with more than 400 show cars. Individuals with vintage, exotic, and collectible vehicles to gather on the same show field used to display vehicles entered in the following day’s prestigious Concours d’Elegance. Join car enthusiasts at the The Golf Club at Amelia Island where they gather on the first, tenth, and eighteenth fairways for a cup or two of fresh coffee. March 11, 9am to 1pm, Golf Club at Amelia Island next to The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.
